Memphis is a city where Black history is not just remembered but lived. From the rhythms of Beale Street to neighborhoods built on Black pride and possibility, our city has been shaped by generations of Black creativity, resilience, and leadership. This February, We Are Memphis proudly presents Black Legacy Lives Here, a storytelling campaign honoring the past, present, and future of Black legacy across Memphis.
While we reflect on the history that built our city, we also recognize that Black legacy continues to be written every day — through the people, places, and institutions carrying it forward. Throughout the month, we will spotlight stories that highlight Black excellence in education, art, community, health, and culture, showing how history lives on through modern-day Memphis.
By sharing these stories, we hope to celebrate Black contributions, elevate voices across our city, and spark meaningful conversations about how we can collectively honor and uplift Black history. Not just in February, but year-round. Because in Memphis, Black legacy isn’t just part of our story — it lives here.
