Vinyl masters: How this Memphis company became one of the nation’s largest record-makers

When vinyl manufacturer Memphis Record Pressing launched in November 2014, co-owner Brandon Seavers had modest expectations.

“We thought if we get five years out of this, we’re golden,” Seavers said. “Here we are in 2022, and never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that we would be building this massive organization.”

Memphis Record Pressing (MRP) is about to make a major leap with a $25 million expansion of its facilities on Brother Boulevard, at the Bartlett-Memphis border — one that will grow its manufacturing operation from 16 record presses to 52, up its total output from 10 million to an estimated 30 million records a year, and see it hire additional 300-plus employees (bringing its staff to 550).

Once the expansion is completed in the spring of 2023, MRP will solidify its place as one of the largest — if not the largest — vinyl manufacturing operations in all of North America, making it a truly remarkable Memphis music success story.
