Skating in Memphis is not one thing. It is a Wednesday adult night on a freshly resurfaced floor, a free session on the bluff with the sun going down behind Arkansas, ten miles of paved greenline, and a small group of people who have spent years teaching this city how to move on eight wheels. Here is the map.
Sunset Skate
River Garden, Tom Lee Park, 51 Riverside Dr
The one to build a summer evening around. Sunset Skate runs the last Thursday of the month from April through August, 6pm to 9pm, on the riverfront. Skate rentals are free in 30-minute blocks, there is a DJ, and there are dance lessons for anyone who wants them. It is programmed through the downtown parks partnership and consistently amplified by the local skate community.
Two dates remain in the 2026 run: July 30 and August 27.
East End Skating Center
5718 Mt Moriah Rd
A Memphis institution under new ownership, with a resurfaced floor to show for it. The reason to know East End is the adult nights, which run Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Admission is $8.99 online or $11 at the door.
Cordova Skating Center
Cordova
A daily-hours indoor rink and the home floor for Step and Skate Movement’s group lessons, which makes it the most natural entry point in the city if you are starting from zero or coming back after a decade off.
The crews
Step and Skate Movement runs recurring group lessons out of Cordova and has grown into a touring instructional brand with a following well beyond Memphis. If you want to actually learn, this is the door.
901Skate operates less like a venue and more like the scene’s media arm, filming sessions across rinks and events and keeping a record of who is skating where.
Southern Roll Memphis puts on SK8 Affair, an annual convention-style skate weekender built around Memphis in May, with workshops, socials, and ticketed sessions. Not a weekly night, but the biggest single gathering on the calendar.
Outdoor spots
Shelby Farms Greenline gives you more than ten miles of paved multi-use trail, which is the default answer for anyone who wants distance rather than a rink.
Society Skatepark and Coffee at 583 Scott St is skateboard-forward with a coffee shop attached. Roller skaters are welcome, but know what you are walking into.
Raleigh Springs Skate Park at Raleigh Springs Town Center is city-run, free, and open to all ages.
When it gets cold
Mid-South Ice House in Olive Branch is the metro’s only public ice rink, open year-round with public sessions Wednesday through Saturday. It is a short drive across the state line and worth it.
