This fall, the dance community in Memphis is stepping boldly into a new season. From classical ballet to flamenco, from jazz-inspired musicals to contemporary storytelling, stages across Memphis are coming alive with performances that invite audiences to experience the artistry, power, and beauty of dance.
Summer intensives, workshops, and classes have fueled the energy of this moment. Now, as the curtain rises on fall, dancers are ready to share what they’ve been perfecting in studios all season long. Here’s a look at what’s ahead and how you can be part of it
Ballet Memphis: Bold Beginnings
Ballet Memphis kicks off with Dance in 30 (Sept. 5–6), a perfect entry point for newcomers and longtime fans alike, 30 minutes of dance followed by 30 minutes of conversation with the artists.
In October, the company premieres Macbeth (Oct. 10–12, 17–19), a daring new ballet exploring ambition and power through raw movement.
Of course, the holiday season wouldn’t be complete without The Nutcracker (Dec. 12–14), a beloved tradition that brings timeless magic to families across the city.
Collage Dance: Sweet 16
Collage Dance marks its 16th season with “Sweet 16: A Season of Release, Resilience, and Radical Becoming.”
The journey begins with Let It Fall (Oct. 10–12), a stirring collection of contemporary works that embody transformation, vulnerability, and strength. Collage continues to push boundaries while staying deeply connected to community, reminding Memphis why it has become a national leader in dance.
Orpheum Theatre Group: From Broadway to Flamenco
The Orpheum and Halloran Centre celebrate big milestones this fall! Bluff City to Broadway and Beyond (Sept. 13) honors 10 years of Orpheum’s education programs with performances by alumni who now shine on Broadway. The celebration continues the next day with the Halloran Centre 10th Anniversary Community Day (Sept. 14), featuring free performances, tours, and workshops.
Later in the month, Tablao Flamenco (Sept. 25) brings the fiery rhythms of Spain to Memphis.
And as the year winds down, families can enjoy Ballet Memphis’ The Nutcracker at the Orpheum (Dec. 12–14).
New Ballet Ensemble: A Remix for Memphis
No holiday season in Memphis is complete without NutRemix (Nov. 21–23). Set on Beale Street, this electrifying production blends Tchaikovsky’s music with Memphis’ own rich cultural influences, creating a one-of-a-kind retelling of The Nutcracker. The NutRemix embodies New Ballet Ensemble’s mission to expand the horizons of dance and make it accessible for all.
Buckman Performing Arts Center: New Stages, New Students
At Buckman Performing Arts Center, young dancers return to the studio as fall classes begin August 18.
The season will also feature Mandy Possel’s Nutcracker: Land of Enchanted Sweets (Dec. 5–7), a whimsical take on a holiday classic that’s perfect for the whole family
University of Memphis: Stories in Motion
The University of Memphis shines a spotlight on emerging talent this fall. Home: A Dance Concert (Oct. 24–25) explores the many meanings of home through innovative choreography from faculty, students, and guest artists.
In November, the university’s theatre program presents Chicago (Nov. 20–23), bringing the razzle-dazzle of the Jazz Age to life with unforgettable music and movement.
GPAC & The Cannon Center: From Classes to Classics
At the Germantown Performing Arts Center, the rhythm keeps going strong with Adult Tap Classes every Tuesday, giving Memphians of all levels the chance to dance for joy.
Meanwhile, The Cannon Center will host the World Ballet Company’s Nutcracker (Dec. 24), a magical Christmas Eve performance filled with lavish sets, costumes, and unforgettable choreography.
