The Overton Park Shell turns 90 this year, and the beloved Midtown venue is marking the milestone with a nearly $2 million expansion that will give touring artists the backstage experience the city’s most iconic outdoor stage has always deserved.
Construction is set to begin this summer on the Terry Lynch Artist Lounge, a 2,000-square-foot addition designed to accommodate two or three bands at a time. The space will include showers, restrooms, a tour manager’s office, a catering kitchen, and laundry. It is named in honor of longtime board member Terry Lynch, whose vision was to preserve the Shell in its entirety while upgrading it for decades of future use. The exterior is designed to blend seamlessly with the Shell’s Art Deco architecture, including color-changing lighting that will mirror the stage’s signature glow at night.
