One of Memphis’ most beloved annual traditions returned this past weekend. The 24th St. Jude Memphis Marathon took place on Saturday, Dec. 6, bringing thousands of runners, volunteers, and supporters to Downtown Memphis in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its mission to end childhood cancer.
Presented by Collierville-based Juice Plus+, St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend once again served as the hospital’s largest single-day fundraiser.
Community Support on Full Display
ALSAC president and CEO Ike Anand shared a story that reflected how strongly local businesses rallied around the weekend’s events. A downtown hotel manager had told him that guests often couldn’t leave or return during the race due to road closures — but instead of frustration, the hotel embraced it.
“He said, ‘You don’t need to be sorry. We’re happy to support it… we fight for it,’” Anand said. “That’s how much support exists from business partners.”
Millions Raised for St. Jude
ALSAC — the fundraising and awareness organization supporting St. Jude — set a $16.5 million fundraising goal for this year’s marathon. Since the event began in 2002, it has raised more than $150 million to support St. Jude’s lifesaving work.
Anand noted that the marathon continued to offer both visibility and momentum for the organization.
“Year after year, the passion and support our donors show leads us to dream big,” he said. “Each year’s revenue allows us to grow and expand our mission.”
A Significant Impact on Memphis’ Economy
The marathon also delivered a major economic lift to the city. Anand estimated the 2025 event would generate $45 million in economic impact for Memphis’ retail, transportation, hospitality, and entertainment sectors.
This year’s event brought together 23,000 participants and 4,000 volunteers, making it one of the largest race weekends in the region.
“This event brings together the absolute best of Memphis,” Anand told the Memphis Business Journal. “Our city is warm, hospitable, friendly — and incredibly generous. During St. Jude Marathon Weekend, Memphis comes together as one family.”
