Shovels hit the dirt this week on new construction from the Community Redevelopment Agency’s Essential Housing Program, which pairs land and funding with local builders to bring affordable homes to the Uptown and Binghampton neighborhoods.
Four developers are building under the program: Nuewill Construction, Moody CDC, West TN CDC and Bee Development. Each home has to be well-designed, energy-efficient and priced within reach of low- to middle-income households, with both homeownership and rental options on the table.
Two homes are already listed: a 3-bedroom, 2-bath at 915 Faxon Ave. from Nuewill Construction, and a 4-bedroom, 2-bath at 1068 Faxon Ave. from Moody CDC. The CRA hosts regular “Essential Housing Taking Shape” events to connect residents with the developers and professionals building in their neighborhood.
