A major investment in one of Memphis’ historic institutions is set to expand opportunity for the next generation of business leaders.
FedEx has committed $500,000 to support the business department at LeMoyne-Owen College, reinforcing career readiness, entrepreneurship, and student success at the city’s only historically Black college.
The funding will support four key areas: job readiness programming, student support services, scholarships, and entrepreneurship training. Together, these initiatives are designed to help more students graduate, reduce financial barriers, and enter high-demand industries prepared to lead.
“This support accelerates our efforts to prepare graduates who are ready to lead, innovate, and strengthen the economic vitality of Memphis and beyond,” said Christopher B. Davis, president of LeMoyne-Owen College.
The investment will expand career preparation programs and deepen connections between students and employers, strengthening Memphis’ talent pipeline. Scholarships funded through the gift will also help improve retention rates by easing financial challenges that often stand in the way of degree completion.
FedEx leaders say the commitment builds on the company’s longstanding partnership with the college and reflects a shared vision for economic growth rooted in education.
“Together, we are building a stronger pipeline of future-ready leaders,” said Rose Jackson Flenorl, manager of global citizenship and human resources at FedEx.
In addition to workforce development, the college plans to enhance entrepreneurship resources — empowering students not only to launch careers, but to create businesses that contribute to Memphis’ growing economic landscape.
As Memphis continues investing in talent and innovation, this partnership underscores a shared belief: when students thrive, the city thrives.
