Add another line to the resume. A new Travel + Leisure ranking has named Memphis the best road trip destination in the entire country, putting the city ahead of far bigger metro areas on this year’s list.
The ranking points to Memphis’s light traffic, easy highway access, and how simple the city is to navigate as the standout reasons behind the top spot, calling out a stress free driving experience that’s hard to find once you get into cities the size of Los Angeles or New York.
It helps that once road trippers actually arrive, Memphis gives them plenty of reason to stay a while. Beale Street, Graceland, the Memphis Rock N Soul Museum, and a barbecue scene with a national reputation all make the city an easy add to any Southern road trip itinerary.
It’s the latest bit of national recognition for a city that keeps showing up on best of lists for food, music, and history, and now for the drive in to enjoy all three.
