Memphis International named world’s top cargo airport thanks to FedEx

Memphis International Airport, thanks to FedEx, was listed as the world’s busiest cargo airport for 2020, marking the first time it has received that designation in 11 years.

The ranking was based on preliminary data released by the Airports Council International (ACI). Memphis International Airport (MEM) surpassed Hong Kong International Airport, which held the top spot since 2010.

Hong Kong handled 4.4 million metric tons of cargo in 2020, down from 4.8 million metric tons in 2019. As for MEM, 4.6 million metric tons of cargo was handled at the airport in 2020, which was an increase from the 4.3 million metric tons it saw in 2019.
