A healthcare access program that started right here in Memphis is now expanding across Tennessee. The United Health Foundation has committed $4 million to grow the Health Hubs initiative, a project born out of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s push to close gaps in preventive care and chronic disease support.
The expansion means more underserved communities across the state, not just in Memphis, will gain access to the kind of preventive screenings and chronic disease resources that can catch problems early and keep them from becoming bigger, costlier ones down the line. It’s part of a broader wave of Memphis-based healthcare access efforts, including mobile cancer screening programs, that have been gaining traction and funding over the past year.
What began as a local fix for gaps in Memphis healthcare access is becoming a model for the rest of Tennessee, proof that solutions built here don’t have to stay here.
