Memphis got a major moment in the digital spotlight on Thursday, Sept. 11, when global livestreaming star IShowSpeed brought his “Stream in America” series to the Bluff City.

The popular creator, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., has quickly become one of the most influential figures in digital media. He recently ranked No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s 2025 list of 25 Most Influential Creators, thanks to his massive following of more than 40 million on Instagram, 43.9 million on YouTube, and 2 million on Twitch.

Welcomed by Memphis Leadership

IShowSpeed kicked off his Memphis visit by meeting with Mayor Paul Young, who encouraged him to soak in the city’s culture and energy.
“Memphis is an amazing city,” Mayor Young said. “There is so much culture here, some of the most culture that you will experience in the world. We have a lot of flavor, a lot of energy, and you’re gonna feel it from the folks.”

Experiencing Memphis Landmarks

Fans tuned in as Speed explored some of Memphis’ most iconic destinations. He toured Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid before making a powerful stop at the National Civil Rights Museum, where he walked through the exhibits and stood on the historic balcony of the Lorraine Motel, the site of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.

The streamer also connected with the city’s vibrant sports scene, meeting Memphis Grizzlies stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. at FedExForum. Later, he joined Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo for “slicing,” a uniquely Memphis style of pool diving that has gained national attention.

Connecting With Fans

True to the spirit of his tour, IShowSpeed allowed fans to guide his journey across the city. From Shelby Farms Park to Beale Street, he greeted locals, posed for photos, and experienced Memphis through the eyes of its people.

Memphis in the National Conversation

IShowSpeed’s stop in Memphis is part of his “Stream in America” series, where he spends an entire day livestreaming in one city. Other stops have included Chicago, Boston, Cincinnati, and Nashville. His Memphis visit not only gave his millions of viewers a firsthand look at the city’s culture, landmarks, and people, but also highlighted why Memphis continues to grow as a destination for music, sports, and culture.

With one of the world’s biggest digital stars showcasing his Memphis experience, the Bluff City once again proves it has the energy, history, and soul that captivate audiences far beyond its borders.
