Huntington Bank is putting $300,000 behind Memphis families and future workers. The Huntington Bank Community Foundation announced a $250,000, three-year investment in United Housing and a $50,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis.
The United Housing investment will support families earning less than 80% of the area’s median family income, funding down payment and closing cost assistance along with homebuyer education and counseling. United Housing assisted nearly 800 individuals and families in its most recent annual reporting period, and executive director Amy Schaftlein says the gift will help serve hundreds more, including first-generation homebuyers.
The Boys & Girls Clubs grant supports the Juice Plus+ Technical Training Center, an after-school facility where young people build skills in culinary arts, logistics, automotive technology, welding and IT, plus interview techniques, goal setting and money management. The funding will help pay for industry-recognized certifications.
“We believe in Memphis and the people here, and when we invest in housing, workforce readiness and local partnerships, we’re investing in the future of Memphis,” said Brian Walhood, Huntington Mid-South regional president.
