Memphis-based FedEx is making one of the biggest electric truck commitments in the industry. The company has ordered 2,000 all-electric trucks from California manufacturer Harbinger in a deal valued at more than $300 million, announced Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Harbinger calls it one of the largest binding orders for electric medium or heavy-duty trucks in history. The trucks are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027 and will serve FedEx pickup and delivery operations across the U.S. and Canada, replacing conventional vehicles one for one.
The order builds on an earlier 53-truck deployment. Harbinger estimates each electric truck can cut fuel costs by about $20,000 a year, which adds up to roughly $40 million in annual savings across 2,000 trucks.
