Memphis’ culinary scene has reached a new milestone. Chez Philippe, the fine-dining restaurant inside The Peabody Memphis, has been awarded the coveted AAA Five Diamond designation, making it the only restaurant in Tennessee, Mississippi, or Arkansas to hold the honor.
The recognition places Chez Philippe among an elite group of just 65 restaurants nationwide that have earned Five Diamond status through American Automobile Association’s Diamond Program, which evaluates restaurants on service, atmosphere, and overall guest experience. The designation process includes anonymous inspections, reservations, and a final review by a panel of experts.
Founded in 1982, Chez Philippe has long been a cornerstone of Memphis fine dining. The restaurant blends Southern ingredients with classic French culinary techniques, serving a highly seasonal menu that has earned accolades for decades. It previously held AAA’s Four Diamond designation since 1989 before reaching the program’s highest level this year.
Chef de cuisine Keith Clinton, who began leading the kitchen in 2023, credited the team behind the restaurant for the milestone.
“This recognition belongs to our team. Their discipline, hospitality, and dedication to the craft make what we do possible every day. I’m incredibly proud of them, and proud that we can represent Memphis at this level.”
According to AAA, Five Diamond restaurants are recognized for delivering exceptional service and memorable dining experiences that consistently exceed expectations.
For Memphis, the designation is another reminder that the city’s culinary culture continues to gain national recognition — from beloved neighborhood spots to world-class dining experiences.
