The Renasant Convention Center was packed Wednesday night. The Memphis Sports Council inducted the 2026 class of the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame before the largest crowd since the Hall began honoring inductees in 2019.
John Calipari headlined the class after nine seasons with the Tigers that included the 2008 national championship game. He was joined by Super Bowl champions Stephen Gostkowski and Tim Harris, two-time NBA All-Star Larry Kenon, Redbirds legend Stubby Clapp, and softball gold medalist Chelsea Bramlett-Hampton.
The hometown coaches held their own too. Bobby Alston spent 47 years at Memphis University School, and Roosevelt Hancock won five city championships at Hamilton High. Phil Chamberlain and Larry Rea rounded out the class.
“What a special night last night being back in Memphis for the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame!” Calipari said afterward.
