The Memphis Redbirds made history on Sunday.
With a victory over the Nashville Sounds, the Redbirds clinched the 2026 International League First Half Championship, the first time in franchise history the club has reached the International League Championship since joining the league ahead of the 2021 season. Six seasons into the league, this is the breakthrough Memphis baseball fans have been waiting on.
The win caps a first half that put the Redbirds at the front of a crowded International League field, and it sets up one of the biggest stretches AutoZone Park has seen in years. Memphis will host the best-of-three International League Championship series September 22 to 24 at AutoZone Park. The opponent will be the second half International League champion, to be determined later this season. Tickets will go on sale at a future date.
AutoZone Park has long been one of the best places to catch a game in the minor leagues, with its downtown backdrop, year-round buzz, and a fan base that shows up no matter the standings. This fall it becomes the stage for something the city has not seen before: a real shot at a championship, on Memphis’s own field, in front of Memphis’s own crowd.
The Redbirds earned this. Now it is on Memphis to show up and make AutoZone Park as loud as the moment deserves.
