Cool, hidden and unique things to do in Memphis

You’re never without activities and things to do in Memphis. Whether you want to check out a new restaurant, a new club or a new art exhibit, you’ll find something that fits your outgoing desire. But what happens when you want to find something a bit out of the ordinary? Thankfully, there is plenty of that in Memphis as well. So, if you’ve been looking for cool, hidden and unique things to do in Memphis, you’ve come to the right place.

Ducks in a Hotel

Would you ever guess a high-end hotel would actually let ducks march in through the lobby? Well, at the Peabody Hotel, which is one of the most historic hotels in the state, that’s exactly what happens. Every day a team of ducks march through the lobby at 11 a.m. and eventually into the fountain. The hotel even rolls out a literal red carpet for the ducks.

This is one of those activities you may only need to see once, but it is a grand time, especially if you have kids. There’s just something whimsical about ducks walking through the hotel lobby that makes it worth seeing.

Beer-Drinking Goats

If you’re going to have ducks walking the red carpet, why not have beer-drinking goats? If this sounds like your cup of tea (or pint of beer), visit Silky O’Sullivan’s, located on Beal Street. This is an Irish joint (while there, order the “Diver” mystery cocktail), and it is home to a number of goats. So if you ever grow tired of the piano music from inside the bar, you can come out and spend your time with the goats on the outside.

The Shrunken Head

Here’s an odd one for you: The Pink Palace was originally built by the founder of the Piggly Wiggly grocery chain. There’s a large museum inside, with all kinds of odd items. This includes a shrunken head, which was given to the owner after he visited with tribes in South America. Maybe it’s real. Maybe it’s not. But it’s strange and unusual, that’s for sure.

Drive-In Movie Night

The Malco Summer Drive-In theater is a great chance to travel back in time. Sure, the drive-in movie isn’t the same draw as it once was, but there’s just something exciting and oddly romantic that makes taking in this attraction such a fun experience. Plus, most of the movies put on display are classics from a time period gone by.
