This new initiative by @downtownmemphis is all about activating hidden gems: the alleyways and tucked-away spaces that hold so much character and history. ✨⁠

The first stop was Barboro Alley, and it was lively! A killer DJ kept the energy high, while folks browsed unique finds from local vendors and enjoyed delicious eats from Sage, Aldo's, and Local on Main.⁠

We even learned some fascinating Black history. Did you know that the once-segregated Main Street was home to a bustling shopping, dining, and entertainment area? It was also the site of many sit-ins led by the Lee Sisters, ultimately leading to the street's desegregation! Alley Dayz is more than just a party - it's a chance to connect with the rich tapestry of Downtown Memphis.⁠

Since then, The Black Arts Center has become a vibrant hub for artistic expression and community connection in Memphis They’ve showcased the greats of Black theater, hosted family celebrations, open mics, comedy nights, film festivals, art shows, and more! This space is all about celebrating the diversity of Black art and building a strong, supportive community. Join Hattiloo Theatre for a celebratory cocktail party on July 10th! It’s a chance to raise a glass to 10 years of artistic excellence.
