Memphis is a city where Black history is not just rememberedâit is lived. From the echoes of Beale Street to the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, our city has been shaped by the resilience, innovation, and brilliance of Black leaders, educators, and changemakers. This February, We Are Memphis is proud to present Black Legacy Lives Here, a month-long campaign celebrating the past, present, and future of Black excellence in our city.
While we honor the history that built Memphis, we also recognize that Black legacy is still being writtenâthrough the educators, mentors, and community leaders who are shaping the next generation. Throughout the month, we will spotlight four individuals whose work has an educational influence, enriches the community, and provides opportunities for learning.
By sharing their stories, we hope to inspire, educate, and ignite meaningful conversations about how we can all contribute to moving Black history forward. Because here in Memphis, Black legacy isnât just a part of our pastâitâs our present and our future.
