When the weather turns colder… a comforting bowl of soup in Memphis can hit the spot! Whether you prefer beef, chicken, shrimp, tofu, veggies, and/or seafood; a broth or cream base; crackers or a bread bowl, there’s a soup for your every craving in Memphis. Some of the top chefs in the city spoon out the comforting slurp-worthy menu items regularly— but especially now that the temperatures are falling.
From a classic cup of chowder to a bowl of gumbo, find your favorite at these five soup places:
Bayou
Bayou is known for there cajun style soups that come in a cup or bowl to suit your appetite.
The Soup Sampler is a perfect menu choice if you’re like me and tend to be indecisive. It allows you to try all 4 of their slurp delicious menu items. There is nothing better to represent a true taste of New Orleans than gumbo, a filling soup that’s prepared with either seafood or with duck and sausage at Bayou. The alligator chilli and the shrimp and crawfish bisque are also two other cajun style soups that are on the menu. The soup sampler is highly recommended.
Flame Ramen
The ramen is the signature dish at Flame Ramen– *hence the name*. It’s the newest Ramen place to open in the city, located on Union. Each bowl is packed with intense flavor and their menu has a variety of broth types to suit any tastebud. They’ve got the classic tonkotsu and miso, but don’t be afraid to shake it up with their super spicy, shio, or tan tan bowls. With toppings like a soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushroom and more, this spot should definitely be on your list. Pro tip: grab the spicy ramen and gyoza and use some of the broth as a dipping sauce. So. Good.
