You may have noticed some soulful billboards around town featuring the Memphians we know and love. One such Memphian is Kela Jones, CodeCrew’s Director of Development.
When asked about what soul means to her, Kela says, “For me, soul is that intangible “thing” that is left behind. Soul is the memories left behind by family and friends. Soul is the feeling you draw on after seeing a work of art or hearing a song that has deeply moved you. Soul is change means being your true self, being authentic, being genuine. Let your character and your light shine.”
Kela brings her soul by leaving her footprint in the things she’s passionate about, and there’s no better place than Memphis to do that. “Memphis is one of those places where if you’re a true Memphian, you have a grit and grind about you,” Kela says. “What makes Memphis soulful is our rich history, our neighborhoods and schools, from our music to our food, to our southern hospitality, to our amazing charitable spirit, and of course what can only be defined as our own language…Memphis has a different swagger that can’t be found in any other city. Memphis is just different, Mane!”
