A new era of daytime television is here, and Memphis has a reason to celebrate. CBS’ highly anticipated soap opera Beyond the Gates is making history, and among its talented cast is none other than Memphis-area native Brandon Claybon.

Claybon, originally from Oakland, Tennessee, plays Martin Richardson, a driven congressman determined to leave his mark on history. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Martin pursued a career in politics and now lives outside “the gates” with his husband and children. His ambition knows no bounds—he has his sights set on becoming the first openly gay Black president.

While Beyond the Gates is set in the affluent Fairmont Crest community just outside Washington, D.C., Claybon’s roots are firmly planted in the Mid-South. Before launching his acting career, he built an impressive resume as a model, working across the U.S. Today, he’s a seasoned actor with over 40 national commercials and a growing list of TV credits.

Most recently, Claybon guest-starred in the second episode of Grey’s Anatomy’s milestone 20th season. His other television appearances include Tyler Perry’s Zatima, 911, S.W.A.T., Shameless, and The Neighborhood. Now, with his role in Beyond the Gates, he steps into the spotlight in a show that’s making waves as the first Black-led daytime soap opera in nearly 35 years.

Beyond the Gates premieres Monday, February 24, and with Claybon bringing his Memphis-bred talent to the screen, local fans have even more reason to tune in.
