A massive project predicted to transform the West Tennessee region earned a high ranking from an expansion- and development-focused publication.

Ford Motor Co.’s $5.6 billion project — the largest investment ever made in the state — at the 4,100-acre Megasite of West Tennessee in Stanton tied for first with the $5 billion Rivian Automotive project in Social Circle, Georgia, on Site Selection’s 2021 Top Deals in North America.

The Megasite of West Tennessee has seen years of work and improvements to gain a project of Blue Oval City’s magnitude. According to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the state has invested close to $200 million to date in the megasite.

Mark Herbison, president and CEO of Covington-based HTL Advantage, told MBJ in November, that, since 2010, several notable automotive companies considered placing an automotive plant at the site — namely, the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant that went to Huntsville, Alabama, and Telsa had considered it, as well.

Before settling at the Megasite of West Tennessee, Greg Christensen, director of manufacturing transformation at Ford, told Site Selection that the entire site search took several months, involving nearly 100 sites in more than 20 states.

The 3,600-acre Blue Oval City campus is a component of Ford’s $11.4 billion, 11,000-job plan for electric vehicle (EV) and battery production in Tennessee and Kentucky. Ford’s project in Kentucky also ranked high at No. 3 on Site Selection’s top-deals list.
