About This Event

Join us for a fun-filled afternoon at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music's Free Family Day on May 13, 2023, from 1-4 pm. As part of the museum's 20th-anniversary celebration, this event offers free admission for everyone during that time. Bring the whole family to enjoy live music both indoors and outside, food trucks, arts & crafts, bouncy houses, face painting, balloon artists, games, and other exciting activities throughout the afternoon.
This year, we are thrilled to have the support of Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris' Nonprofit Committee. Numerous other arts groups and nonprofits will also be joining us, so there will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about Memphis history and the role Stax Records played, including during the Civil Rights Era.
In addition, we are proud to celebrate the new partnership between the Stax Museum and WDIA of iHeart Media. As the nation's first station for African American programming celebrates its 75th Anniversary, look for more events with the station, including a WDIA memorabilia exhibit this fall. The station will be at Family Day with a live remote and on-air personalities like the legendary Stan Bell and Bev Johnson.
Family Day allows children and their families to enjoy more exposure to the arts, and visitors can learn more about the music created at Stax and its history. This event is free and open to the public. Come and join us at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music on May 13th from 1-4 pm for a day filled with music, fun, and learning!
