Memphis native Katori Hall was awarded a Pulitzer Prize Friday, June 11 in the 2021 drama category for her latest work “The Hot Wing King.”

She’s also a previous Olivier Award winner and a two-time Tony-nominee. “The Hot Wing King” premiered in spring 2020.

“A funny, deeply felt consideration of Black masculinity and how it is perceived, filtered through the experiences of a loving gay couple and their extended family as they prepare for a culinary competition,” is how the play is described on the Pulitzer’s website.
