Memphis powerhouse event planner Cynthia Daniels has found a new stage for community connection — inside Ikea.
A longtime fan of the Swedish retailer, Daniels was inspired after spotting a Memphis music–themed display in the store. The idea sparked conversations with Ikea’s leadership, and soon after, Cynthia Daniels & Co. Series @ Ikea was born.
“I’m all about community engagement,” Daniels said. “Ikea has this prime space and this parking lot. They have cool, unique things in the store, and I wanted to create opportunities to bring out the community.”
The series, which has already piloted a few smaller gatherings since May, will officially launch on September 1 and continue through September 2026. The lineup is designed to celebrate Memphis creativity and entrepreneurship, with events ranging from vegan block parties and plant sales to interior design workshops, mocktail tastings, and seasonal food truck roundups. Food trucks will also be stationed daily at the Cordova location throughout the year.
While Memphis’ Ikea — located at 7900 Ikea Way — attracts visitors from as far as Little Rock and Nashville, Daniels emphasized that the series is rooted in serving Memphis.
“I want to include as many Memphis creatives and entrepreneurs as possible,” she said. “Even for the book fair — there are so many local authors. I want to create a space for them to sell their books.”
Daniels, who has built her reputation on spotlighting local talent and creating signature experiences, sees Ikea as a perfect partner. Beyond the store’s global appeal, she values the brand’s investment in Memphis and the way it encourages people to engage in-person at a time when most shopping has shifted online.
“When Ikea first opened, I was the type to spend an entire day there, exploring and getting something to eat,” Daniels reflected. “Now, after working so closely with the team, I know the store like the back of my hand. I almost feel like I work there.”
With her signature mix of innovation and community spirit, Daniels’ new series promises to turn Ikea into more than just a shopping destination — but a hub for Memphis culture, creativity, and connection.
