Soul and funk in the following decades brought smooth, rhythmic and high-energy styles that reflected connection and community while filling dance floors. Dance Memphis exists to amplify the power of dance in Memphis and Shelby County through collaboration, shared strategy, and shared accountability. We believe that the Memphis dance community, the city of Memphis, Shelby County, local tourism, and the Memphis and Shelby County Schools can and will benefit from uplifting and elevating dance to directly impact public safety, tourism, public health, and public education.​
