5 Juneteenth Festivals to Attend this Weekend

Juneteenth 2022 falls on Father’s Day and Sunday Funday. Where in the 901 will you be celebrating Freedom Day with family and friends? Here are a few festivals to check out.  

 2nd Annual Family Reunion Festival

Orange Mound Tower, June 19 (5pm – 11pm) 

This music festival takes place on the 10 acres surrounding the historic United Equipment building in America’s first black neighborhood. Hosted by Unapologetic and TONE, this festival elevates Memphis emerging musicians like Duke Deuce, Talibah Safiya, Bodywerk, and more. 

Juneteenth Douglass Freedom & Heritage Festival 

Douglass Park, June 17 (9am – 10pm), June 18 – 19 (11am – 10pm) 

Since its first festival in 1993, the Freedom & Heritage Festival has inspired countless Juneteenth events in Memphis. Enjoy live music, poetry, and spoken word – along with family friendly activities like senior bingo, morning yoga, a petting zoo, and even a wrestling match. 

 2nd Annual TriState Black Pride Festival

Overton Park Shell, June 19 (4:30pm – 10pm) 

TriState Black Pride is a celebration that showcases the inclusivity of our community.  The Black Pride Memphis Music Festival will be hosted by local LGBTQ+ advocate Eddie Wiley and headlined by the “Diamond Princess,” Trina. Memphis’ own Bird Williams and more than 20 other artists will also perform. 

3rd Annual Juneteenth Shop Black Festival

Pipkin Building, June 19 (11am – 6pm)  

The Juneteenth Shop Black Festival features 100 black businesses as well as 25 food trucks and vendors. Shop until you drop, and vibe to live tunes from local acts including Gerald Richardson, Carmen Hicks, and Courtney Little. 

29th Annual Memphis Juneteenth Festival

Health Sciences Park, June 18 – 19 (10am – 10pm) 

The Memphis Juneteenth Festival offers something for everyone. The event features a Freedom Walk/Run, outdoor history museum, Greek step show, and kid’s play zone — with live music, comedy, and worship on the main stage.
