10 Attractions Reopening in Memphis in 2023

Memphis is finally beginning to reopen many of the famous locations and attractions found around town after nearly a year of being closed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Memphians and tourists alike have missed visiting the historical and beautiful attractions around Bluff City, and finally, as the vaccine is being rolled out, and doors are beginning to reopen, we can return to celebrating some of the places that make our beautiful city the center of Soul, Rock, and Blues for the world.  Here are 10 of our favorite places that are open for business once again around Memphis.

Memphis Music Hall of Fame

The Memphis Music Hall of Fame is open Wednesday thru Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Memphis Music Hall of Fame is currently opened at a limited capacity. Guests are required to wear face coverings and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Temperatures will be checked before entering the museum. 

A Tour of Possibilities Caravan Tour: Stay Safe in Your Own Car!

During A Tour of Possibilities, you can learn more about the history of African American Contributors to the great city of Memphis by enjoying a guided car tour that visits dozens of historic sites. This tour allows guests to enjoy the excursion from the comfort and safety of their own vehicle, allowing tour-goers to listen in to the incredible and knowledgeable guides via smartphone. The two and a half-hour long tours run from Tuesday through Sunday, visit the website for details.

Beale Street

Many of the restaurants, bars, and clubs on Beale Street have been opened under Directive 16 of the Shelby County Health Department. All restaurants must adhere to a strict 25 percent capacity order, however, Live music and entertainment is allowed to return under the directive. If you want to dance, however, you must do it outside, and maintain at least six feet between you and your partner unless from the same household.

The Memphis Botanic Garden

From now until January 22, 2021, the Memphis Botanic Garden’s outdoor exhibits and gardens are open to the public. After January 23, 2021, more of the facilities and shops on the property will be reopened to the public. Memphis Botanic Gardens is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Stax Museum of American Soul Music

The Stax Museum will reopen on January 23, 2021 with regular visiting hours. All visitors must adhere to social distancing guidelines, as well as wear a face covering for the entirety of their visit to the museum. The Stax Museum is opened from Tuesday thru Sunday. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shelby Co. residents will receive free admission to the museum every Tuesday after 1 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase in advance, and museum-goers should expect all transactions to be cashless in order to minimize physical contact during the Covid-19 pandemic. Backbeat Tours

Backbeat Tours is currently open and offering limited seating for their bus tours. All guests must be healthy, wearing masks, and take social distancing precautions when enjoying the tour. Tours will be limited to a maximum of 12 people on the bus tour, as well as a maximum of 8 people for the walking and bike tours around town. All Backbeat tours depart from Alfred’s Patio Bar on Beale Street.

Edge Motor Museum

The Edge Motor Museum is open with regular daily hours for museum patrons. The Edge motor Museum enforces all social distancing and COVID-19 mandates, requiring visitors to wear face coverings and maintain 6-foot social distancing guidelines. The Museum is open Monday thru Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Shelby Farms Park and Shelby Forest State Park

Shelby Farms Parks is open for guests to enjoy the Shelby Farms Greenline, lakes, trails, horse stables, dog park, gift shop, Battlefront laser tag, and paintball experience and the Go Ape Treetop Adventures Course are all open for guests to enjoy. For guests looking to enjoy the Bike rentals and boat rentals, these attractions are available by advanced reservation only. Restrooms in the Visitor Center are open, however, all other restrooms are currently closed. Guests can view the park’s amenities opening guidelines on their website.

Shelby Forest, along with most other Tennessee State Parks, is open for normal daily access walking and hiking trails, boat ramps, and other activities around the park. Shelby Farms Park and State Park adhere to social distancing guidelines, and Covid-19 mandates and restrictions.

The Dixon Gallery & Gardens

The Dixon Gallery & Gardens has been open for regular hours, However, advanced reservations are required to visit the museum. All guests must wear face coverings and abide by the 6-foot social distancing mandate while visiting the gallery as well as the Gardens. Please visit the Dixon website for more information. The Dixon Gallery and Gardens is open Tuesday – thru Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Graceland is open for guests who adhere to social distancing and mask guidelines.  Tours of Graceland are currently at very limited capacity. Guests will be required to have their temperature checked before entering Graceland. It is highly recommended that guests who wish to visit Graceland purchase their tickets in advance in order to guarantee entrance to the attraction. Details are available here.
