Two Memphians, a previous nominee and a first-timer, have been selected as semifinalists for the 2024 James Beard Awards.
Phillip Ashley Rix, founder of Phillip Ashley Chocolates, is a semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker for the second year in a row. Daris Leatherwood is a first-time semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast as former chef of Supper Club on 2nd.

Rix launched his chocolate company in 2010. Since then, he’s partnered with Miller High Life, Campbell’s, Cadillac and the Grammy Awards, among others.
