Fun Things to do in Memphis

If you are planning a visit to Memphis anytime soon, there are certain destinations and activities you’ll want to make time for during your trip. Whether you’re traveling alone or with a group, there’s fun things to do in Memphis for everyone to enjoy.

Must-see Memphis attractions

Overton Park

Enjoy the great outdoors at Overton Park, which includes more than 8 miles of trails, beautiful gardens and an abundance of picnic areas. Walk at a slower pace for a while as you take in everything this beautiful city has to offer.

Sky Zone Trampoline Park

If you have kids, you’ll want to make sure you set aside time for all the high-flying fun to be had at the Sky Zone Trampoline Park. Thanks to its comfortable, air-conditioned setting, this indoor attraction is a great place for the entire family to have some fun.

Autobahn Indoor Speedway & Events

If you’re visiting with older kids and adults, your time in Memphis simply must include a visit to the Autobahn Indoor Speedway for some fast-paced racing fun and high-energy games. Race cars, test your skills and compete in the arcade with family and friends.

Crystal Shrine Grotto

Nature lovers will love walking around the trails and admiring both the beautiful landscapes and natural features of the Grotto as well as the breath-taking architecture featured here as well. Many visitors enjoy photo ops and leisurely strolls along the trails and garden pathways.

Graceland

No fan of Elvis “The King” Presley’s trip to Memphis would be complete without a pilgrimage to Graceland. Buy tickets early, as they tend to sell out—especially during peak travel seasons.

National Civil Rights Museum – Lorraine Motel

Celebrate history, remember our country’s past and acknowledge how far we have come with a visit to the Lorraine Motel. After Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated here, the site was turned into the National Civil Right Museum. Remember what must never be forgotten and pay tribute to a man who changed the world for good.

The Peabody Ducks

A quirky attraction that’s fun for all ages, the Peabody Ducks are a great way to wrap up any day spent touring the attractions and destinations of Memphis. Kids love the Peabody Ducks and even adults will find themselves smiling at their adorable antics.

AutoZone Park

If you’re looking for the feel of Fenway Park in Boston or Camden Yards, home to the Baltimore Orioles, you are in for a treat when you visit AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis. The ballpark, opened in April 2000, is home to the 2018 Triple-A National Champions Memphis Redbirds (a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals). Named “best minor league ballpark” in America in 2009, it hosts nightly fireworks shows during the season. The park will also be host to the Memphis 901 Football Club of Major League Soccer beginning in 2019.

Full Gospel Tabernacle

There are many fun things to do in Memphis this weekend. No visit to Memphis is complete unless you spend time hearing the Reverend Al Green sing and preach in his church, the Full Gospel Tabernacle. Reverend Green’s church is on the bucket list of every baby boomer and Generation Xer who remembers this former R&B star, who recorded the number one song “Let’s Stay Together” in 1972 and is an inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He has been the pastor at Full Gospel since 1976.

Memphis Pyramid

Formerly known as the Great American Pyramid, the Memphis Pyramid was built in 1991. This former concert venue and sports arena was, for a time, home to the University of Memphis men’s basketball team and the Memphis Grizzlies NBA franchise. Although it closed for a while in 2004, hosting its last music concert in 2007, the iconic building has since reopened as Big Cypress Lodge, a Bass Pro and 100-room hotel. At a height of 321 feet or 32 stories, it is one of Memphis’s tallest buildings and by some accounts, the 10th tallest pyramid in the world.

Sun Studio

Many have called Sun Studio in Memphis the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll. Samuel Cornelius Phillips, an early pioneer in the music genre, opened it in 1950. Sun is the place that launched the career of Elvis Presley as well as Hall of Fame artists Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. The first rock ‘n’ roll song single produced in the United States came from Sun Studio, “Rocket 88,” by Jackie Brenston and the Delta Cats. The group also featured a little-known drummer named Ike Turner, who would go on to fame as a member of Ike and Tina Turner. A visit to the studio will put you in the footsteps where legendary careers were launched.

Step out and enjoy Memphis

Do something out of the ordinary and see these places or do these things when visiting the city. There are many fun things to do in Memphis this weekend or any weekend. If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and do something a little different, you can become immersed in the wonderful rich history that is Memphis. You will find that new adventures await you that will give you even more reasons to fall in love with Memphis, Tennessee!
