Tyke T drops new record, new direction with ‘Written by Tyke T’

Tyke T is throwing it back and pushing it forward with his newest album, Written by Tyke T, out today.

The follow-up to his 2020 project R.O.N.A., Written by Tyke T sees Tyke taking his lyric game to a new level and intentionally putting songwriting at the center. Inspired by the hitmaking history of Memphis music, including the likes of Stax and Sun Records, Written by Tyke T features soul and R&B songs performed by Memphis-based vocalists, harkening back to an era when it was common to use a variety of artists with the same songwriters to create to a unified sound.

The album builds on Tyke’s impressive resume, which includes Billboad chart success (“The Prelude,” 2017) and placements in hit TV shows. The lead single, “Mood,” features powerhouse Memphis vocalist Stephanie “Doll” McCoy alongside Tyke – but the rest of the album may surprise you as it zeroes in on that magic combo of songwriting and vocals. From the stirring love ballad “I Won’t Leave” featuring Terrance Love Henderson and Karen Brown, to the 90s hip hop swing inspired “I Got Your Back” featuring Chris J, Aspen and Christopher Barnes, this album takes listeners on a sonic journey that combines hip hop, R&B and gospel for a modern take on southern soul.

Check out “Mood” now and head to your preferred streaming or download service to experience the fullness of Written by Tyke T now.
