Jessica Ray is bringing R.A.W., a virtual event she produced in 2020 as a response to the pandemic, to the real-life stage at the Halloran Centre on October 21.
“I initially created R.A.W. in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic as a way to promote local Memphis artists during a time we were struggling for support,” Jessica says. “Additionally, it became a platform for artist collaboration as well as another stream of income for creatives who took a financial hit due to the pandemic. The virtual R.A.W. concert was very well received, and although we have adapted to existing within the pandemic, it’s nice to be able to have an annual event on the books that can add to our financial support as well as continuing to be able to do what we love.”
As R.A.W. moves from virtual to in-person, it also expands – the October 21 event will feature two opening acts – Brezay and Kriso – supporting Jessica Ray. “They will have the opportunity to perform original music and creatively express themselves, as well as an entire support staff, hair and clothing stylist, videographers, photographers, lighting technicians, makeup artists and choreographers,” Jessica says.
It was nice to see so many artists take their concerts virtual last year, but we definitely like this WAY better – a virtual event born out of the pandemic becoming an annual, in-person opportunity to experience live Memphis music. Tickets start at $10 and are available here – or head over to We Are Memphis Music on Instagram for your chance to win the VIP experience, which includes a backstage meet and greet!
