Artists, illustrators and designers: want to help Memphis get through COVID-19? 

We know you’re just as passionate about Memphis as we are – and that’s why we need you and your talents to be part of our campaign to educate Memphians about staying safe and flattening the curve of COVID-19.

What to do: get creative 

We’re coming to you because you can help communicate critical messages about COVID-19 in creative, memorable, effective ways. We’ve seen cities and states across the US come up with some pretty great memes to promote #socialdistancing and #saferathome – check out New Jersey’s with The Boss or Chicago’s with Mayor Lightfoot. Now let’s see Memphis creatives shine! 

That’s where you come in: create a shareable image/meme that communicates the following messages:

Stay home. Stay safe. 


In case you need it, here’s a little more:

  • Testing is now available for FREE to all Memphians. But you need to call ahead!
  • You are safer at home. Stay home and save lives.
  • Keep your distance, slow the spread.
    • Stay at least 6 feet from other people
    • Do not Gather in group
    • Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherins

How To Enter

Email your custom meme to with the subject line “Meme competition” and a link of your meme on a social media platform. Bonus points if you include links to multiple posts promoting it with #WeAreMemphis!

We’ll share our five favorite memes on and on Instagram (@WeAreMemphisTN). Whichever Instagram post gets the most likes in 48 hours wins!

What You Win

The winner will see their meme used in a broader city-wide campaign AND have some extra $$ to spend this month. We’ll use your meme in our COVID-19 awareness campaign, which you can learn more about at, and we’ll send you a $500 Visa gift card.


All memes must be submitted by email to by Friday, May 8th!

Voting will take place from Monday May 11th – Tuesday, May 12th.
