Built in 1936 by the City of Memphis and depression-era WPA (Works Progress Administration), the Overton Park Shell has played home to many a historical event such as Elvis Presley’s first paid show in 1954 and Memphis’ First Country Blues Festival in 1966. Levitt Shell presents more than 50 free concerts annually for free. It’s mission is building community through free music and education, finding common ground in a diverse audience.
